The Megs Mutual Aid Award

For building systems of care that help a community help itself.

About the Award

Care is a value. Mutual aid is a practice.

But making care reliable, accessible, and sustainable requires people who turn good intentions into working systems.

The Megs Mutual Aid Award recognizes individuals whose work strengthens a community's ability to care for its members.

Named in honor of Megs, who helped build The Multiverse School's mutual aid program, maintain its automations, and develop supporting data visualizations, this award celebrates the often-invisible work that makes community support possible.

We believe that the infrastructure of care deserves recognition alongside the more visible accomplishments of technology and education.

What We Celebrate

The award recognizes contributions such as:

Why It's Named for Megs

Megs contributed to the early development and ongoing operation of The Multiverse School's mutual aid infrastructure.

Their work helped us support people during an important period in the school's growth.

Between March and June 2026, Megs personally researched and sent local resource kits to 171 people who had asked us for help, finding 1,480 resources for shelter, food, financial help, safety and counseling. Twelve of the thirteen people who wrote back said something Megs found had helped. Then Megs turned that research into a shared resource library, so the next person in need wouldn't have to wait for one person to find the answers.

We established this award to honor those contributions and to celebrate a principle that remains central to our mission:

Community care should be built into the systems we create.

The Spirit of the Award

The Megs Mutual Aid Award is not about heroic self-sacrifice.

It is about building systems that make care possible without requiring people to exhaust themselves.

The strongest mutual aid systems respect boundaries, distribute responsibility, protect dignity, and make communities more independent.

This award recognizes people who put those principles into practice.

Care is not merely what we feel. It is what we make possible for one another.
