The Multiverse School

Multiverse Report - 12.1.24

🏴‍☠️ 12/01/2024 Multiverse Report 🏴‍☠️

Have we grown to be more than a school? We're certainly still running classes, but our research team, community organizing, content production, and general impact have slowly turned this thing into what I originally envisioned when I chose the name, The Multiverse School. It's a Multiverse. We have a lot going on, and for a long time the School's weekly newsletter has been a weekly ritual I've engaged in to log the various projects, hijinks, shenanigans, and chaos you've all gotten me, Liz, mixed up in. It's been a mix of personal updates, a class schedule, and a weekly link dump. Sometimes the community is the star here, but largely this has been something that I personally ran, with help from other people and AIs.

Except I don't feel like it's true anymore. I felt like I had help, like I was in this with the community, but then for a long time it was largely me trying to get folks to do stuff, and desperately trying to throw up the bat signal to people who might be able to keep up with me.

Now, I finally feel like I am unable to keep up with all of you. I've said recently that I felt like Nick Fury, assembling The Avengers. It's such a corny thing to say, but it's the only metaphor that feels like it fits.

This is not a costume, or an affect, this is just what I look like:

The goal of the community remains the same. We're neurodivergent, mostly queer, and we want to learn and grow together. We want to get people jobs, but also we want to help them escape capitalism if they want. We're trying to prevent as many of the AI apocalypse scenarios as possible. We're trying to make sure that Silicon Valley doesn't suck up all the oxygen in the room, especially with regards to robots, because it's literally just dangerous. We're more than this now though. We're tackling community needs, trying to act as a focal point for community organizing. We're even pulling other communities together, like a patchwork quilt, weaving our way through all of them with our queer syndicate of swarm queens and Mx Robotos.

Anyway, that to say, this is why I have to expand the newsletter to cover what the community is doing.

I haven't rescheduled the AI alignment class yet! I haven't forgotten, but Joaquin is in town this week, and we're streaming Robots. I have 3 remaining slots in the class.
