The Multiverse Newsletter

Shipped in Week 0

2026-10-25T09:00:00. 000000

Week 0 is the week you work out what your life costs and pick a branch — Make and Do or Go To Market. Nobody is supposed to ship anything yet.

They shipped anyway. An essay that sat in drafts for weeks. A radio bridge that took a year. A guide for getting your deposit back from a landlord who'd rather keep it. Here's the week.

Early Fall, Wall to Wall

2026-10-18T09:00:00. 000000

The Zine went quiet after June 2025 — the school did not. This is the last of the catch-up Quarterlies, covering September 1 through October 18, 2026, and weekly issues pick back up on October 25.

The headline of this stretch is volume. Twenty-two classes held their first session in six and a half weeks, most of them one-day intensives: agents, context engineering, RAG and memory, hosting open models, propaganda, data activism, home network defense. Three ran in Spanish with Sandra Acevedo Alvarado.

My favorite part is the shelf of things members made and posted themselves — a typing app, a document-to-podcast pipeline, a drone navigation suite, and a game two AIs can play. Smaller items follow.

August: We Shipped Everything

2026-08-30T09:00:00. 000000

August was the busiest month we've had, on the teaching side and the building side. Ten classes ran their first session — a one-day agents intensive, a two-weekend cyberdeck build, a Spanish-language propaganda class, and an interactive fiction day taught by Neek.

The Founding Federation room did most of the talking, and most of the shipping showed up there too. People posted live sites, GitHub repos, a podcast generator, a closet organizer and a goth-godparent matcher, nearly always with a request for feedback attached. Give it. The cyberdeck class spent the month arguing about Orange Pis, and the AI rooms passed around papers, a few small models and a lot of opinions about token budgets.

We shipped more on the school side than I can list, so I grouped it below. This is a catch-up issue — the whole month in one go.

Cyberdecks and Shipped Things

2026-07-26T09:00:00. 000000

Early summer at the school had two modes — building a cyberdeck by hand and shipping a website by Tuesday. Thirteen classes started between June and the end of July: Build a Cyberdeck, Practical Propaganda, Intro to Open Source, Interactive Fiction, Control AI Spending, and then Automate Your Email and Context Engineering right at the end.

The Founding Federation Cohort Alpha room was the loudest place in the building. Most weeks had a business hour, then a technical hour, and what came out of it is the showcase in the middle of this issue — maps, privacy tools, a visual novel, a handful of Claude skills and one very cheap domain name.

We shipped a lot too, and most of it is unglamorous: a merch lab, sponsor-a-seat donations, email preferences, a What's New card and a few absurd homepage themes. If something here is wrong or you want it gone, email me — it's one email away.

Spring, Shipped

2026-05-31T09:00:00. 000000

I took a long break from the Zine after June 2025. Weekly issues pick back up on October 25, and until then I'm catching up with Quarterlies like this one: March 1 through May 31, 2026.

I taught eighteen classes this spring, and every one was listed as a single session that came around again. Critical Thinking and Creativity with AI ran four times. Agentic SDLC and Business Automation ran three times each, Intro to Agents twice, and interactive fiction got an intro and then an advanced class.

The bigger change was Founding Federation Cohort Alpha — it started April 20 and met on campus Monday through Thursday mornings. Its chat room logged 1,722 messages by the end of May, and a lot of them were landing-page links. Learn to Code, which had been running since March, built a task app, a newsletter tool, a VRChat classroom and a resource finder live on stream.

Everything in the shelves below was posted by the people who made it, in class and community rooms. Credit goes to the names they posted under, right?

Old Phones, Honest Agents

2026-02-22T09:00:00. 000000

Between December and the end of February, thirteen classes opened their doors and two chat rooms did most of the talking. The Agentic SDLC room ran past fifteen hundred messages. The solarpunk room passed twenty-five hundred.

The solarpunk room spent January teaching old phones to serve web pages and cheap radios to talk to each other. The agents room spent it learning that an agent that says "done" and an agent that is done are two different employees — you have to check. Both rooms ended the quarter with working software, which is the part I like best.

What people built comes first, because it's the best thing here. After that: what the rooms were chewing on, a few things we launched at the school and the campus, and the reading list everybody passed around while the weather was bad.

Neon Campus, Seven Classes

2025-11-30T09:00:00. 000000

This is the Fall 2025 Quarterly — a catch-up issue for September through November. The weekly reports paused, but the school didn't: seven classes started, the community built itself a virtual campus, and the chat rooms filled up with papers, repos and half-working agents.

We made some real upgrades this fall. Course materials moved onto the student dashboard, meeting links and calendar invites now go out per session, and the student handbook is in review. The community side is tk's open-source campus, which got a cyberpunk map, plus a steady run of repos from people who took the agent classes seriously.

Below, in order: what the school launched, the classes that ran, the campus, the things you all built, and the reading list that got passed around.

The Summer the Map Moved

2025-08-31T09:00:00. 000000

Summer was supposed to be the quiet part. The Job Search and BrandUp standups went on Off Week, the Solarpunk mornings paused, and the git log for the website thinned to a few weeks of metrics plumbing and one fix for duplicate weekly emails. The chat rooms did not get the memo.

Here's what happened instead. Prompt Engineering ran sixteen sessions, Swarm Architecture ran eight, and a three-day Using Large Language Models intensive in mid-August drew 140 students — tk called it the largest class size this cohort. Meanwhile you all argued your way off Gather Town and started building our own video campus, a Meshtastic radio network started taking shape across Texas, and the papers room filled up faster than anyone could read it.

This issue is a catch-up, so it's a sampler — what you built, what you passed around, and the one big question of the summer, which was where we all meet now. Weekly issues pick back up on October 25.

6/1/2025 Multiverse Report

2025-06-01T05:28:48. 752155

Being well known on the internet—even slightly, even as small as my following is—is a robust experience. It’s robust like a mountain. There’s a viewpoint you have that not everyone has. And with that comes a lot of actionable information. But it’s also solid, right? Beneath my feet. It’s very grounding. It’s not the place where the earth shakes apart—it’s where the earth comes together, if anything. So it’s a very grounding experience that I think a lot of people don’t get to experience. I’m very grateful for that.

But with that robustness comes this sense of finality, right? Like I have to keep going, doing the same thing. It makes it easy to obligate myself. Because, you know, there’s all these people. It’s like I have 200,000 accountability buddies. I’m terrified to disappoint anyone—by being tired, or slowing down, or taking a break.

I’ve been at this a while. I didn’t get to have this many followers in this short of a time period on these platforms for no reason, or overnight. It’s something that happened over many years. And it creates this… I have a great deal of love for everyone. But love can create a sense of obligation. Because I say I want to do a thing, and everyone’s like, “Yeah!” And I can’t do everything.

So I try to hand stuff off. Sometimes, as a group, there are just so many people with the same need that it seems like a waste not to get them together and collectivize that need. That’s largely what I’ve been about at the Multiverse School—trying to put the right people together at the right time. That’s the unique position I’m afforded by my reach. And I think that’s a noble pursuit—something I can contribute in a really unique way because of my background in a lot of these environments.

But here’s the thing: in order to actually do creative stuff, you have to have the room to explore, try things, fuck up, and try again. That’s a lot of why I preach the practice of rest and downtime—and time to execute, really. When you want to do stuff, you’ve got to be less social.

That’s partly why I had to pause the job search stand-up, and a lot of things this summer. I need to do some more research. Keep ahead of the field. Dig into the things I need to actually dig into to execute on the whole robot arms journey. My ability to actually do those things depends on me having some free time.

So I took some corporate classes so I can run fewer concurrent classes. I think y’all have seen me—when I try to run three at the same time, I get pretty tired. And in order to provide really good quality education, I need to just run fewer cohorts at a time. And be rerunning classes fewer times. Have more weeknights available to myself. Have more daytimes available so I can do the research I need to do.

A lot of the reason I’m able to keep up with stuff is because I do this regularly. I just say, “Okay, I’m done with this for a while.”

I haven’t been doing newsletters frequently, but rest assured: I’m still okay. I appreciate those of you who checked in with me and made sure I was okay. I hoped that by posting regular, up-to-date videos, it would be a good proof of life when I just couldn’t do the newsletter anymore. It’s been a consistent part of my life on Sundays, but let me tell you—it gives me the Sunday scaries something fierce.

So honestly, I think I’m going to follow my own advice. You know when the best day to send an email is? It’s Tuesday. Or Wednesday. So I think newsletters will return, but they’ll be a Tuesday or Wednesday phenomenon—not every single week. A lot of cool stuff happened at the beginning of this year. A lot of things got kicked off. I really just need time to execute on those things, and less time spent convincing people that we have ignition on a critical series of issues that are research priorities here at the Multiverse School.

If you want to join us this summer, you just need to have your proposal 100% firm by the middle of June.

A lot of people were wanting to help with the Meshtastic review, and I think maybe we’ll do some hot scheduled livestreams this summer as a security group. If you want to be in on that security working group, I will announce it.

We’ll get online and dig deep into the code. Those will be fun things I’ll do with not too much notice—just drop in if you have a good brain, rather than creating obligations.

I'll see ya a lot this summer, but I need to take some time off from the daily thing, so I can do some deeper execution on my own initiatives.

By the way, folks have asked for guides on cybersecurity more times than I can remember. I've been working on them, based on a number of case studies I've been collecting. I'd love your feedback on them, before I make each one more public.

Domestic Violence & CyberStalking Triage Guide - Mostly complete, would love your thoughts
Recently Hacked Normal Person, Need to reset security on all devices - mostly done, need feedback
Cybersecurity for Journalists
Extremely Vulnerable Activist Targeted by State Sponsored Threats - the most extreme case, the one I want the most feedback on

5/4/25 Multiverse Report

🏴‍☠️ 5/4/2025 Multiverse Report 🏴‍☠️

Multiverse Crew-

Hey wanna see some cool impact numbers?

Job Search is changing! It'll be free (kind of).

Frankly I'll be teaching a bunch of daytime things this summer, so I will be somewhat spotty on being able to do a 8-10am class M-TH every week. It is very important for our community that we meet regularly, so I'll be making Standup a "Gated Community Class". Basically- if you pay once for a standup membership, you're in (because then I won't get spammers or actual children coming in). You can continue to pay the Standup membership, but it is now optional.

Originally, I wanted to stop doing this in the summertime, but everyone loves the Solarpunk standup and the Job Searching, so we'll still meet in the morning. We'll just naturally shift the topic distribution to "learn the things you're learning at the Multiverse" and "Start a Business". I may rename the calendar invite.

That said, Summer is when I have actual time to do The Research Program. I will reach out to you individually to invite you to apply.

This time around: The research team is a 100% free program, not a discount on the membership. Next year I hope to have a stipend available for researchers. That said, it will still be invite-only. Apply by proposing projects over email, I'll respond to those of you who are in. Caution: there will be deadlines.

Oh also I dropped an album and you can listen to it for free and download the stems to remix here. It's Suno-generated songs off of poems I wrote myself about how angry I am.

Resist

The CyberPony Express continues, ah I'll announce the next one soon.

In other news, every piece of information related to anyone here being neurodivergent has been scrubbed from our databases. All teacher notes, applications, anything you filled out related to the Multiverse School and being neurodivergent has been erased from our systems, including backups. We'll be scrubbing anything that could be used to specifically identify you as neurodivergent. It's now too compromising to keep around.

If the autism lists affect you, have your data deleted from BetterHelp. Under many state laws, you can also request private insurance companies and any doctors you have worked with delete your medical data, or specific elements of your data. HIPPA is what controls this. That said, who knows what really happens to it. Unfollow groups on facebook that suggest that you're neurodivergent. Stop liking things on social media related to neurodivergence. This all sucks, it can help reduce the probability you get swept up in a dragnet.

Look, people ask me what I recommend to keep your data secure- ya gotta understand that privacy is an extreme lifestyle but maybe what you need. The book I linked (a non-affiliate direct-purchase link of a pdf you can download) is about as up-to-date as you can get. I don't feel comfortable selling you something based on the world's state, I feel like it's opportunistic. I can recommend that book, but be warned any opsec list that's in a book is decaying, rapidly.

Want to talk to neurodivergents about neurodivergent stuff safely? Get. A. Meshtastic. Node. Talk there.

Got the thing.

Multiverse Programs

ok the robots thing will be starting in June. Yes, you can apply to get involved. Let's seize those means.

I scheduled a new track of Prompt Engineering! We've revamped and updated the Prompt Engineering curriculum to cover Advanced RAG, and this week we'll start covering Model Context Protocol since it seems like the AI world is standardizing tools around MCP. It starts this week! Monday, at 5PM!

Solarpunk Standup is going on still - this is first assembly. Bring your problems, needs, and we'll get the community problem-solving. This is included in any membership tier and for anyone currently in a class or anyone I've said can just come.

Job Search / Brandup Standup will be from 9am - 10am Pacific. This is where you'll work on either search for jobs (literally apply to jobs, put in proposals, pitch contracts, do outbound emails), or your personal brand (literally the stuff like your website, social media post, mass communications, etc).

Are you learning some tech stuff? We launched a lot of free tools for learning to code recently. These are Custom GPTs that will run fully customizable courses- just tell them where you're at! They each assume some amount of knowledge, but if you don't have it, that's fine! Just tell them how new (or how experienced) you are and it will add enough supplementary materials for you.

Math and Python are still being run as Community Classes- this means if you're on any tier (or frankly if you've paid for a class at one point) you can drop in to get help with Math or Python.

Don't forget to join us on Matrix, where we'll stay tight-knit and coordinated, run mutual aid groups, and keep everyone safe. This is going to be a rough few years. Let's keep each other safe and sane.

See you at first assembly.
